HP Unveils All-in-One TouchSmart 610 PC

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 10:59 PM PDT

HP has refreshed its all-in-one PC lineup with HP TouchSmart 610. Apart from the availability of tablet PCs, the second biggest reason why touchscreen PCs didn’t really succeed has been for the fact that the users would have to extend their hand in a very awkward position (angle) to use the touchscreen, which is often not very comfortable.

With the launch of new TouchSmart 610 PC, HP may have solved this huge problem! Promising an ergonomic design, HP’s all new TouchSmart 610 PC has the much-needed flexibility to recline up to a whooping 30 degree angle, making it so much adjustable for the optimum position.

Most all-in-one PCs don't go back nearly this far, which can mean they're a pain in the neck (and wrists) to use at bench-height while standing up. With their tilt mechanism, HP have effectively solved that problem. This way, you can use HP’s TouchSmart 610 PC even while standing, for instance.

TouchSmart 610 All-in-One PC has been designed to provide a holistic touch-enabled entertainment experience to our users and serve as a one stop shop for all their computing needs. Its reclining design with adaptable features makes it an ideal choice for users across age groups,” said Vinay Awasthi, Sr Director Product & Marketing (PSG), HP India.

HP TouchSmart 610 PC Hardware Specs:

TouchSmart 610 PC has a sufficiently large 23-inch multi-touch screen running TouchSmart 4.0 software suite. Viewing the screen at such angles is possible, thanks to the LED backlighting which is more, even compared to CCFL. The 74K model is made up of Intel's Core i3-2100 Sandy ridge CPU along with 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 500GB (7200rpm) hard drive.

The graphics card used is a ATI MXM30 Viper. Other components include a 6-in-1 card reader, slot loading DVD drive, TV Tuner, Wi-Fi 'n' with Bluetooth, HP wireless keyboard and mouse and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition.

The 23 inch, LED-backlit 1920 x 1080 resolution screen is however a bit of a hit-and-miss affair. It has a glossy finish which will reflect any light sources from behind or above you depending on how you orient the screen, plus it suffers noticeably from ghosting (it's rated at a slow 14ms response time) so it's not so great for fast-moving video like sports footage, or whizz-bang video gaming. On the bright side, it provides crisp and clear images with amazing viewing angles.

The PC will also come pre-loaded with applications like Facebook, Twitter, as well as HP’s RecipeBox, webcam and music applications. Users can also add new applications via the TouchSmart Apps Center.

The PC also features Beats Audio by Dr. Dre for a richer sound experience. All this convenience comes at a price and HP’s new All-in-One TouchSmart 610 PC will cost you Rs. 74,150, bundled with a 3-year warranty.

Overall, the HP TouchSmart 610 proved itself to be a very capable and usable machine. It worked great as a media player and packs enough grunt for common computing tasks, including some light gaming – all for a reasonable (!) price tag.
