Epic Games consider iPhone 8, a future alternative Gaming Console

iPhone 8 – Alternative to Traditional Consoles

It seems Epic Games really believe that, in future, iPhone games might be good enough to replace a traditional gaming console.

Mike Caps, president of Epic Games (guys behind Infinity Blade, an iOS action game with terrific graphics powered by Unreal Engine), believes that people should consider iPhone 8 gaming, circa 2015 as a great Gaming gadget, at least good enough to compete with portable gaming consoles.

"So I think that's the real challenge for us now, rather than worrying about the difference between a couple consoles and some order of magnitude, whether 3X or 4X. It's about how do we deal with iPhone 8… if you watch where the gamers are going that's where they are. Your iPhone 8 will probably plug into your TV, or better yet, wirelessly connect to your television set to give you that big screen gaming experience with good sound. So really, what's the point of those next-gen consoles? It's a very interesting situation to be looking at. That's what we're starting to think about more… not how do we scale from some Nintendo platform to some other future console," he concluded.

In clarification to this major statement, Epic moved back a little saying that iPhone won't replace the consoles but you can expect for some awesome games packed, see Apple's track record for reference.

iPhone, over the years… has improved a lot, it has become a great portable gaming device with casual games like Angry Birds, Cut the Rope etc. It also has to offer loads of HD games including Asphalt, Infinity Blade etc. It would be safe to say that iPhone 8, scheduled for 2015 may sport something unimaginable.

iPhone 5 is coming soon, we'll see whether they can do magic with phone's hardware this time around.

What are your expectations from future iPhone gaming?
