Lake Minneola School in Florida switches from Textbooks to iPad Posted: 31 Jul 2011 05:13 AM PDT $700,000 spent to purchase 1750 iPads for Kids in FloridaThe future of Education can't be separated from Technology, a school named Lake Minneola in Florida have integrated Apple's Iconic Tablet PC in their school instead of Textbooks. When the kids are going to return to school, next month, they would be welcomed by a brand new Apple iPad for home and school use. The school has invested around $700,000 to purchase these Tablets for its students. iPad would be come pre-loaded with Textbooks in digital format along with several educational apps. Also, this version of iPad would be a locked one, which means that students won't be able to install apps that are not appropriate for school. Unfortunately, you won't be able to play Angry Birds in the middle of a boring history lesson.
Anyways, the school teachers have already begun to plan out how they are going to give lectures using iPad. The iPad would also be provided with a rugged carrying case to survive the rough school life. I think it is a good idea to incorporate technology as a teaching aid, at least now they would be able to see the structure of various organic compounds in three-dimensions or understand how the universe works, NASA's universe app would be put to great use there. I don't think the books can completely be eliminated, I hope they don't replace School's library with a room containing a single iPad. Google tries to speed up Web Performance with Page Speed Service Posted: 31 Jul 2011 04:48 AM PDT Enhance Web Performance with Google's Page Speed ServiceGoogle, the search giant is putting a lot of emphasis of speed up your website's performance. If you are a webmaster, you must have heard about Google's Page Speed toll that let's you know how fast your website is loading and also provides you with tips to improve the performance of your website. Now, Google has decided to implement Page Speed Service on a larger scale, thus decreasing your website's loading time by 25 to 60 percent but for that they would download the content from your servers, rewrite the web pages as per the most beneficial web standards and then source it from their servers. It is slightly corny, because you would be giving the rights of your private files to Google, which means they would know everything about your website. Google said via their blog that they are working on this service to enhance website's performance and has no intentions to collect information for future advertising opportunities. Check out Google Webmasters and register your website to use Google's Page Speed Service. As per Sony's Official Blog, the update would be made available first to non-carrier Xperia X10 Smartphones, the ones who are using their phone with a data carrier would have to wait a little longer to grab a bite of Gingerbread for their Smartphone. About 10% of all the phone have already being notified that a new update for their Operating System is available; others would be notified within coming week. Have you installed Gingerbread on your Xperia X10 Smartphone yet? Please share your thoughts with Wizard Journal using the comment form below and also your friends using the social bookmarking icons. Apple starts to roll out 90 seconds iTunes Preview Worldwide Posted: 30 Jul 2011 07:19 AM PDT 90 Seconds Song Previews on iTunes spreading InternationallyIt seems that the 90 second long iTunes song previews which were initially launched in United Stated back in December 2010 are now set to spread Internationally. It seems a pretty good idea for the consumers, they can listen to the songs for a full 90 seconds, get a feel of the song and then decide whether they are interested in buying that song or other songs from that Artist/Group. In some parts of the world, the 90 seconds iTunes preview has been not been provided for all the songs, only on a few selected ones, the reason for that is still unknown but I feel Apple would be doing something about that. My Personal iTunes software seems not to work anymore but as reported by TiPb, 90 seconds song previews on iTunes are working fine in Canada but for a few songs. Are the 90 seconds song previews on iTunes working in your country?
