RIM might reveal New Smartphones & BB OS 6.1 at BB World Conference

RIM to launch BB OS 6.1 and New BlackBerry Smartphones soon

It has been a long time since BlackBerry has not release any new range of Smartphones. Along with that there is no sign of BlackBerry OS 6.1 which Research in Motion (RIM) hinted to launch in the first quarter of 2011.

This year BlackBerry World conference is happening in Florida and it is anticipated that BB would reveal a new Smartphone that runs on its latest operating there.

“It’s going to be a newsy summer for us. And a very newsy BlackBerry World in a few weeks. Let’s just say I like what we’ve got,” said RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie at the launch even of BlackBerry Playbook.

These words from Jim Balsille suggest heavily that BlackBerry is planning to launch something new this year. I don't know much about what BlackBerry has in its mind but I just hope it has something to do with the design of their phones.

BB World Conference would be the perfect place to learn what BlackBerry is planning to launch under its portal including "the latest information about BlackBerry platform to business leaders, IT professionals, Software Vendors, BlackBerry Channel Partners and solution providers."

This is not all.

A Wall Street blog was posted recently which revealed some more information about RIM's plans. It revealed that the new Smartphones on which BlackBerry is working on at the moment are an attempt to restore RIM's declining position in the Smartphone market in North America.

The blog post also confirmed that BlackBerry is planning to launch a new operating system which would probably be the much awaited BlackBerry OS 6.1 regardless of the name tag with RIM puts on it.

RIM had earlier announced that it would be launching Smartphones running on BlackBerry OS 6.1 by the end of February 2011 but it seems that BB is suffering from a lag time or a faulty calendar because nothing about it has come out so far.

BlackBerry World Conference could be the place where RIM breaks the ice but I am not too sure about it.

RIM had also said that new BlackBerry Smartphones with BlackBerry OS 6.1 on it would have both touchscreen and QWERTY keypad just like BlackBerry Torch 9800.

There are many analysts who have confirmed that BlackBerry would be introducing their latest innovation in Smartphone genre at BlackBerry World Conference and one of those analysts is Mike Abramsky who works with RBC Capital (a wing of the Royal Bank of Canada) currently.

“While new products and software may face mixed reviews (when compared to Apple), we believe once launched, they may exhibit uptake above low expectations,” the RBC analyst was quoted as saying.

Hypothetical Success Story of BB Playbook

Success Story of BlackBerry Playbook

If you thought that BlackBerry World Conference would have only the unveiling of a new Smartphone then wait… because there would be something more.

It is expected that BlackBerry would be announcing the success statistics of BlackBerry Playbook (RIM's Android OS 3.0 {Honeycomb} Tablet). Mike expects BB Playbook to have sold more than 100,000 pieces on the day of its launch.

But how dependable is that information?

RIM's stocks Torronto Stock Exchange have not moved a single since the release of BlackBerry Playbook therefore I am not going to agree with Mike yet. Let's see what stats RIM reveals at BB World Conference.
