Chicken Invaders 4 by InterAction Studios Review

I was 11 when I first played Chicken Invaders 2, unfortunately it was a demo version that allowed me to play only for an hour only but I found a bit of a catch in their programming, the game didn't stop after 1 hour unless you close the game, so I played that game for about three and a half hours and since then my love for casual games like Chicken Invaders has grown steadily.

The next sequel of the game i.e. Chicken Invaders 3 had superb sound effects and the latest version of the game "Chicken Invaders 4" has a lot more to offer which would be the central topic of discussion for this blog post, it is basically my experience with the game.

Basic Intro

Chicken Invaders 4 is the latest installment in the very popular series of shoot `em up casual games from InterAction Studios. Chicken Invaders is one of the most popular casual games available for PC, although you can play this game on PC, Mac and Linux. The basic theme of Chicken Invaders 4 is more or less like the previous version of this game but still there are hell lot of improvements which I am going to discuss one by one with you.

Key Features

  • Up to 4 players can play simultaneously
  • Adventurous journey to 12 star systems
  • 120 waves of invading chickens
  • 9 Amazing weapons to take your revenge
  • Weapons upgradeable up to 12 levels (supercharged)
  • 30 Unique Bonuses to collect
  • 15 medals to attain which demonstrate your skill in the game
  • Internet high score table
  • Play multiplayer with friends over LAN and more

Storyline & Gameplay

Chicken Invaders 4 begins where "Revenge of the Yolk" had end, basically you are the controller of a lone spacecraft that has encountered an alien invasion not from Martians but from a technically advanced race of Chicken bound to attack your spacecraft with their egg bombs, stinking feather etc. If you thought that these tiny, easy to kill chicken are the worst of your problems in the game then you're wrong! because these chicken have brought their daddies for invasion too, the bosses.

The appearance of your battleship has changed in Chicken Invaders 4, now you can additional weapons on both of your wings which come handy when you are not able to cope up with waves of Chickens that come howling for your life. Just click the right-mouse button and you're ready to show them who is the boss.

In Chicken Invaders 1,2 and 3 enemy used to attack from only direction from north but in Chicken Invaders 4, your spaceship is attacked from random direction, each wave comes from different directions therefore you have to monitor your flight all the time, it is quite challenging but become interesting once you get a hang of it.

Experimenting with Power Ups (discussed later in this article) comes handy and sometimes prove to be a lifesaver. On the whole, the gameplay of Chicken Invaders 4 is somewhat similar to Revenge of the Yolk, with minor changes, of course, which I mentioned earlier in this post.

Loot full of Meat, Coins & Power Ups

The most enticing part of any shoot `em game is the loot and undoubtedly, InterAction Studios has done a great job in developing the loot system for Chicken Invaders 4. Chicken, when blasted, shower Meat, Coins and 9 type of Power Ups.

There is an interesting thing to know about power ups. Each Power Up has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it is recommended to change your Power Ups from time to time so as to keep the excitement of the game alive. My favorite Power Up is the red one, I love it when it is supercharged to level 12.

In-Game Music

Have you ever heard of War Music?

Well, the music score of Chicken Invaders 4 is somewhat inspired from battle music, it is fast paced, engaging and blends with the sounds of your spaceship turning those fat Chickens into a Chicken Salad (the red power up turns them into Chicken Korma. Yum!).

No game is complete without a good background score and Chicken Invaders 4 satisfied my thirst for good music very well.

Challenging yet Energizing Boss Levels

In almost all the games Boss is most difficult to defeat and this game is no exception. One thing to ponder upon is that these bosses not only throw egg bombs on your spacecraft but also shower lasers in a variety of colors, swiveling your spacecraft through these attacks and still attempting to win is challenging in some of the boss stages.

I love InterAction Studios for adding the percentage based health meter instead of a red or blue bar heath meter in boss stages. After some time, it becomes very irritating to keep firing at the boss without any hint of him getting weaker. This percentage meter gives you realtime status as "percentage of damage done" which would give you an exact number of times you have to hit the boss for clearing the level, evading boss' attacks is bit challenging but when you can track your progress, the whole setup become very interesting, it gave me a minor adrenaline rush.

Conclusion a.k.a. The Verdict

Since my childhood, I have played a lot of casual shoot `em games, primitively on my NES and then on my Windows PC. Chicken Invaders 4 is definitely worth a try, it is great fun, it is engaging and you won't get bored. If you are not some "Chicken Invaders Expert" you won't be able to clear all the waves in one go therefore it would keep you entertained for quite sometime. I am not going to rate this game with stars, I am just recommending you this game because I play it myself, you be the judge, whether you like this game or not.

Pricing & System Requirements

I am a Windows user, I got this casual game from Intel App-Up Store. I downloaded the free version [download link] which had limited levels to clear, the pro version costs $6.99/- [download link]. You don't have to worry about system requirements, if you have Windows XP, 7 32-bit, 7 64-bit installed on your system, this game would run perfect. I hope you enjoy it.

A new dish called HTC Ruby with Ice Cream Sandwich on your Table soon

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 01:21 PM PDT

HTC Ruby, high-end Smartphone, Latest Android OS (Ice Cream Sandwich)

I have always liked HTC for making Smartphones with pretty unusual names, take HTC Wildfire, HTC Desire, HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa for example and now they have manufactured a Smartphone that runs the latest version of Android Operating System (Ice Cream Sandwich) and have named it HTC Ruby.

htc-ruby-t-mobile-smartphone

As suggest by earlier rumors, HTC Ruby would come with T-Mobile in United States and would posses a 1.5GHz dual-core processor for massive processing power. For clearer display it would have a 4.3" bright touchscreen (that makes it a monstrous Smartphone) and 1GB RAM for operating multiple apps and games simultaneously.

It is possibly that HTC Ruby is the second codename for device that was earlier leaked as HTC Vigor because they both are expected to release by the end of this year and sport a massive 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Ice Cream Sandwich is an advanced operating system developed to satisfy needs of both Smartphones and Tablet PCs. By the specs of HTC Ruby, it does look like a miniature Tablet thus Ice Cream Sandwich would suit it well.

Tech Specs of HTC Ruby

  • 8MP rear camera
  • 2MP front camera
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • Dedicated camera key
  • Wi-Fi, 4G, GPS, HSPA+ Connectivity

HTC Ruby could be an answer to Samsung Galaxy SII which would be making an entry into US Smartphone market by the end of this year as well. HTC Ruby has some massive hardware on the inside and a better Operating system too, it would pose a threat to Samsung in US.

September 30, another dicey iPhone 5 release date

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 12:51 PM PDT

Apple iPhone 5 pre-order starts September 30th? Really?

According to Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac, pre-orders for Apple iPhone 5 may begin from September 30th this year. The released date of this much awaited Smartphone is still under the clouds of rumors, previously it was confirmed that it would release in September, then again some sources suggest that it won't launch in September but October.

apple-iphone

Apple currently plans to begin pre-orders for their next-generation smartphone in the final days of September. The company has still not finalized the pre-order start date, but is debating between Thursday, September 29th and Friday, September 30th. The 30th seems more likely at this point according to one of our sources. Pre-orders for the new iPhone starting in late September will also mean that Apple's fall event will take place in September; which would seem to counter NewsCorp's Kara Swisher's combative insistence of an October iPhone 5 event.

It seems Apple is not yet ready to spill out exact release date of iPhone 5. This date is also just a date, Apple may change the release date of this Smartphone as per their "successful marketing methods" at the last moment. We'd have to wait and watch.

Vodafone 555 Blue, Mobile Phone inspired from HTC

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 12:28 PM PDT

Vodafone 555 Blue, another Facebook Dedicated Mobile Phone

HTC earlier this year launched two new Smartphones HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa. Along with names inspired from dance forms, it had one more interesting feature, the dedicated Facebook key.

vodafone-555-blue

Taking some inspiration from that, Vodafone has introduced a budget mobile phone called Vodafone 555 Blue in United Kingdom with dedicated Facebook key which would make socializing easier.

It is a basic mobile phone, runs on a normal operating system with a handy QWERTY keypad for easy social networking and also sports a touchscreen display. It is great for avid Facebook users, because they can share whatever they do easily with the dedicated blue F key on the device.

Tech Specs of Vodafone 555 Blue

  • 2.4 inch touchscreen, QVGA display
  • 200 MHz processor
  • 40 MB of internal memory, microSD expansion slot (up to 16GB)
  • 2MP camera with flash
  • Optical Scroll
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack, micro-USB

It doesn't have Wi-Fi or 3G, so the only way to use internet on this device would be with Vodafone's GPRS service which is a negative aspect of this phone. But Facebook's mobile phone app, recently released, doesn't really need too much bandwidth, maybe the Facebook experience on this mobile phone would be optimized with that.

Vadafone might launch this mobile phone in India soon but as of now it is available in UK at a price tag of £62.50 (Rs. 4,644/-) and you can buy it now.
